One of my girlfriends wanted to try this place out so I suggested we go during one of the holiday weekends. Oof, Okonomi is worth that hard resy to make. Though breakfast was so basic, it was SO good. Okonomi focuses on enhancing the natural flavors of the fish & veggies being served - a true homage to Japanese cooking. With that being said, everything was delicious without all the additives. Needless to say, my friend & I finished every last bite. It might be a bad thing that Okonomi isn't too far - I will for sure be back for more!
Best breakfast I've ever had in my life. Get all the add-ons!!! You will not regret it. I've wanted to come here since forever and my friend got us a reservation one morning. They had 3 fishes of the day for us to choose from, and we chose salmon belly. IT WAS COOKED PERFECTLY. The onsen egg with ikura was delicious too. I ate all the rice with them (and I usually don't eat that much rice)! THE BEST.
One of my favorite places in the city. The portion looks small but it's actually really filling and super tasty! You must make a reservation - they don't take walk ins. Staff is super nice too.
Okonomi holds such a special spot in my heart. Serving authentic Japanese breakfast sets in a cozy, quaint setting, the food is even more comforting. Needless to say every side dish is meticulously gorgeous and plated to perfection. The flavors are even more satisfying. I warn you, it is pricy but it's 100% worth spoiling yourself once in a while. Definitely get the large set and the onsen add-on!
First visit: lunch- Very americanized inside (lofi/r&b music to set the chill mood) and just overall vibe. Although everything was absolutely delicious my fish option, tuna belly, was not to my liking. It was quite tough and I could have sworn it was swordfish. The flavor was minimal but enjoyable so not hating too much:). Uni, egg, tamagoyaki (their version) was absolutely heaven. I wish I could order a dozen of their custardy tamagoyaki to go! Although slightly pricy for what's served, as a person who has a void for a stomach I left full and satisfied. Second visit: dinner- Ultra Americanized with respect to the music once more. This time it was trance (or whatever people call that now). Again not complaining at all since I like the music. The starters were the best part of the meal, in my opinion. I could have just eating a few more starters and I would have been satisfied. My uni mazemen, although decadent and clearly the best alternative to a heavy carbonara, was just ok. The uni was fresh but didn't pack that drool inducing punch that they normally do. But with the help of the miso it made quite a lovely dish (could have used less vinegar in the pickled carrots). My partner liked their ramen but didn't love it as they left their broth nearly untouched (they are the kind to slurp it all down) and only ate the noodles and fixings. I didn't care for the fish that accompanied the ramen, which I can't recall the name of, as it was a bit dry (similar to an over cooked piece of beef, in flavor and texture). Overall I can't wait to make this my (ir)regular brekkie spot (it's hard to get reservations for days/time slots you might want and it's pricy). For dinner there are better Ramen spots far more worthy of a trip.
I LOVE the Ramen at Yuji. I'm a pescatarian so it really is the perfect spot, since they have seafood focused ramen dishes. The flavors and ingredients used here are really unlike other ramen spots I've been to. Besides the ingredients and care put into each of the ramen dishes, the ambiance really sets it apart. The place is so tiny, only 12 people can fit. So it's incredibly intimate and you feel quite special getting a seat there! Of course the service is great, being a small place definitely helps with this, but the waiter was super friendly when we went. The kitchen is also right in the restaurant, so you can see the chefs doing everything. We had a bar seat, so were front row to this experience. Great date night spot. I cannot wait to go back, the ramen was life changing honestly. The flavors were so unique and playful. Amazing stuff here!!
Okonomi is such a cute Japanese breakfast place! The thing is, everyone knows it. You will surely wait when you go or they could be fully booked. It's such a small space that it can be hard to get in sometimes. I've never had such a beautifully plated set menu offering. It comes with whatever fish is on special that day, rice, egg, some veggies and soup. I just loved every bit of it, delectaly laid together and lightly delicious. It may look small with all the omakase style portions but it was quite filling. We had really good service throughout when we sat at the counter, too. I just love everything about Okonomi and can't wait to go back!
Really cute restaurant in Williamsburg! The restaurant is small, so I do recommend getting a reservation or going during the off times to get a seat. My friend and I went at night for the ramen. The service was great! We got the Uni Miso Mazemen and the Tai Yuzu Shio Ramen. Both were great - the mazemen was very rich and the ramen was very refreshing! The portions are on the smaller side, so I do recommend getting appetizers as well. Highly recommend this spot! It reminds me of restaurants in Japan.
A cute yummy breakfast spot. It's small and quaint inside, and you really feel like you're going to have a unique culinary experience. Their breakfast menu is very simple, with a choice between two sizes of the set, a choice of adding sides, and three options for the fish. We were bummed that they had such limited quantity of certain fish already at 10:30 (only some at our table got what we wanted). But the meal was really good! Refreshing and light and delightful. My fish was super tender, I loved the onsen tamago in the rice, and the sides were good too! As for portion size, with the standard set I wasn't super full, but I was full enough. If you have a larger appetite, you might want to get the large set.
